I assume I was meant to like the main character, Azoth, but I found his whining and hesitation tedious and I never did appreciate his motivation to apprentice to Master Durzo Blint in the first place. I listened to this as an audiobook book and although I wasn’t overly impressed with the narrator, I don’t fault him for being unable to make this book better through narration. I wanted to like this book, based on the praise it has received, but as you may be able to tell by my tone, I was not unimpressed by the predictability and struggled to get through it over all. ![]() Oh and some suddenly magic, but more on that later. And finally, political machinations, a prophecy and foreign invasion to round out the background plot. Surrounding these two are several characters for the young boy to befriend, ensuring that he always fails the assassins’ number one rule of not caring about anyone. ![]() This is the story of a young boy who discards his old life to become a not-so heartless assassin (aka wetboy), apprenticed to a heartless master assassin who eventually reveals that he was once like the young boy and more, but then love happened etc, mysterious past, etc., and finally, the inevitable fate of master and apprentice. ![]() ![]() ![]() This time in nature gives our brains a chance to “actively” recover and our bodies an opportunity to conduct needed physical restoration. The research circles back to the idea that humans need to spend more time in nature and away from modern society. It’s an interesting read! She talked to scientists from around the globe about their studies on how nature affects our physical body, with much of that research looking at our brains. Williams has been writing about outdoor topics for years and took a deep dive into the science behind why nature restores us. Then I found The Nature Fix by Florence Williams. But as much time as I spend in the woods I’ve never thought about why it’s so refreshing. I love my makeup-free, no-cellphone signal escapes to the woods! As cliche as it might sound, that time away is so refreshing. ![]() After reading the book, I took tried two new ways to bring more nature into the office, and wrote a short blog post about about it. Her book explores the ways being in nature affects our brain, and spoiler - it's all for the better. In 2019, I read The Nature Fix by Florence Williams. In honor or Earth Day I'm sharing one of my favorite Girls Who Hike Blog Posts. ![]() ![]() Now, two decades past SpaceX’s founding, Vance recounts the trials and tribulations - including plenty of expensive rocket explosions - faced by these entrepreneurs in their quest to profit off our planet’s orbit and usher humanity deeper into the Universe. With more than five years of reporting, Vance followed these teams everywhere, from New Zealand to French Guiana, stepping into secret launch locations and witnessing armed bodyguards, whisky-fueled tiffs on private planes, and even a team of male strippers in the process. When the Heavens Went on Sale spends little time on SpaceX, dedicating most of its pages to Musk-inspired space companies that aim to quickly deploy rockets and satellites to low-Earth orbit: California-based Astra, Rocket Lab, and Planet Labs, along with Texas-based Firefly. (We’re trying not to give too much of the story away here, OK?) All of this added up to Styles’ fans being upset that he was even remotely associated with the project. The character of Hardin, though, is questionable in the story, from treating Tessa poorly to engaging in inappropriate behavior. But don’t worry, it’s kinda romantic at times!īased on a romantic fan fiction once penned on popular site Wattpad, the story starred Harry Styles as the main character (who became Hardin when the story was eventually published as the After we know now).
